Wildland Profile

Hot Teams
With just a few hours notice, Rural/Metro can dispatch trained personnel anywhere in the United States to battle wildland and/or forest fires.

Our emergency crews are experts in wildland firefighting. Firefighters are specially trained to read and react to the land, weather and other factors that affect the spread of wildfire. We have a fleet of customized equipment to properly combat wildland blazes, as well as the command strategies necessary to stop a fire cold in its tracks.

As most wildland fires cross jurisdictional lines and involve a number of different agencies, our crews also have command experience in coordinating actions among agencies.

In our offensive against wildland and forest fires, Rural/Metro can provide:

  • Task forces equipped with either three or five fire engines, and fully staffed with firefighters and fire command
  • Strike force teams specially trained in wildland and forestry firefighting
  • Tenders and water tankers
  • Ambulances and fully certified medical crews
  • Crash/rescue vehicles with foam capabilities to provide standby service at helitack bases
  • A wide variety of vehicles and equipment.

Rural/Metro fire crews are directed by one crew boss and two squad bosses. Crews arrive on their own bus, ready to work with chain saws, tools and personal protective equipment.

In addition to the Crew Transport Bus, Rural/Metro can also provide several types of firefighting and support apparatus, including:

  • Type 6 Engines
  • Type 1 Structural Engines
  • Type 2 Water Tenders
  • Command Vehicles
  • 2x4 or 4x4 Pickup Trucks
  • Personnel Transports
  • Advanced Life Support Ambulances
  • Basic Life Support Ambulances

Because prevention is an essential step in battling debilitating fires, Rural/Metro can also provide comprehensive fire prevention consultations and develop a program custom tailored to the environment. We can also assist with reforestation efforts, such as seeding and planting.
